Computer freezing
-
At least once a day my computer will totally freeze on me. The mouse stops working, the keyboard won’t respond. When I
the computer gives me a message that the system has become unstable, or that the system is waiting for a response. It happens when I’m on the net as well as just playing games in Win95. Occasionally it survives long enough for a “fatal error” message to be displayed. I thought it may have been a virus but I downloaded McAfee’s latest anti-viral software, scanned every file possible yet no virus was found. Could it be some sort of driver incompatibility, or perhaps some part of the memory is physically damaged? How do I find out?
Most software has ‘bugs’ in it. These cause computers and programs to occasionally crash. Even though software programmers take the most care to try and get the least bugs in their software it is extremely difficult to even find them sometimes. In this case, it is a General Protection Fault (GPF), one of the more common bugs found in Windows. There is not much you can do but I recommend that you go to Microsoft’s homepage on the internet (www.microsoft.com) and download their Windows Service Pack. This will eliminate many bugs that are found in Windows and hopefully yours as well.
