Internet conferencing

  • My brother who is in Canada and I have been attempting to use the conference facility under Netscape to chat via voice. We both have 56kb modems but the quality is terrible. The voice is continually breaking up and not understandable. Is there something we can do to alleviate this problem. I have checked all settings and have found nothing that would rectify the problem. Your help would be most appreciated.

If the quality of sound is bad over the phone and other things such as getting disconnected from the internet frequently for no reason and bad download times occur it may be because of line noise. Ring Telstra to test your line for noise. Another alternative is to, purposely, turn down the quality of sound and see what happens. You may expecting too good sound quality and your modem/ISP can’t handle it (ie. The high quality may be causing it to go slow and that may be causing the voice to break up).

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
