Updating Windows 98

  • I have Windows 98 and would like to keep up with its updates. But when I try to go to the site via the Windows Update icon on the start menu or via Netscape, all I get is a blank Netscape page, courtesy of the internet service provider to which I don’t subscribe, which tells me the file is ‘done’. So I can’t find anything to download. Any suggestions?

When you logon to the Windows Update page it sends the registration number of your copy of Windows to Microsoft and if Microsoft doesn’t receive the registration number of Windows it will deny you access to the site in the form of a blank page. This is so people who do not have Windows 98 cannot go onto the site and download things from there. Microsoft Internet Explorer has a small feature integrated into it that sends this registration number over, but currently Netscape doesn’t so that is why you are denied access to the site. To fix this just go to the Windows Update site through Internet Explorer which comes with Windows 98.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
