Computer freezing

  • My new Philips 266 MMX Pentium 2 is freezing quite often especially when I am on the net. What can I do?

This is probably caused by a bug in a piece software you are running. Bugs are things in software that cause it not to function properly. Software developers try to get all the bugs out of their software but are normally unsuccessful because some do not reside unless a certain command or keystroke is entered. When developers find bugs they normally release a new version of their software or a ‘patch’ to get rid of the bug. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer go to www.microsoft.com/ie and download ‘Service Pack 1′(SP1), or if your using Netscape, go to home.netscape.com and upgrade your browser if it is not the most current version. If all of these fail it may be your operating system. I assume that you are using Windows 95 or 98. If that is the case go to www.microsoft.com and see if they have a service pack or ‘patch’ for your version of Windows. And as a last resort it may be worthwhile running ‘Scandisk’ and ‘Disk defragmenter’ just to make sure there are no disk errors, etc’¦

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
