Dial-up connection window

  • I am running my PC with Windows 95 and Internet Explorer 4.01. The problem I have is that the ‘Dial-up connection’ window keeps popping up every time I leave my PC idle for more than a couple of minutes. How do I stop this window coming up automatically all the time?

This is probably because a program wants to use a resource over the internet. If you are not already connected to the internet then Windows brings up the ‘Dial-up connection’ box to give you the option to connect. To stop this happening, leave your computer idle but stay near it and when the ‘Dial-up connection’ box appears, look at all your open applications (including the ones on the taskbar and/or in the system tray) and see if they are trying to retrieve something off the internet. If this is the case, close the application and only open it when you are on the internet (if you need it in the first place).

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
