Recording a CD
-
I would like to put a 4min audio CD onto my hard drive but the only recording device I know of is Windows Sound Recorder which has a maximum recording limit of only 60sec. I also have a relatively big hard drive to store the music on. Is it possible to increase sound recorders 60sec capacity? Or is there any other application which would allow me to record the whole song from CD?
The best way, in terms of hard disk space and sound quality, would be to use an MP3 recorder. MP3 is a type of sound compression. The best thing about it is that the file is small (average about 4mb) and is CD quality sound. All you need to do is download one off the internet from a site such as www.mp3.com, place the CD in your CD drive, load the application, and it will ‘rip’ (copy) the track off the CD and encode it into a MP3 file. Then download a MP3 player such a WinAmp (www.winamp.com) and this will enable you to be able to play the file. The only downside to this is to play a MP3 file in stereo you need a relatively fast computer. Despite this, you can still play the file in Mono (Instructions on how to change the settings to Mono can be found in a previous article I wrote). NB: You need to establish that there are no copyright restrictions on the material you intend to record.
