WNetGetUser returned

  • When going into the net I am usually confronted by a dialogue box headed ‘WNetGetUser returned’. In the body of the box is the number 1 and an ‘OK’ button. If I do not click OK I am unable to establish a connection. I am told that my user name or password is invalid. If I do click OK I get a connection. Sometimes the box does not appear when attempting connection and on these occasions I am unable connect - the user name or password is said to be invalid. How can I get rid of this?

This problem can be caused by one of two things: There are invalid characters in the Computer Name box or there is no network client installed. A network client is what is used to connect to a network server over a Local Area Network (LAN) or in your case, the internet. To fix this problem go to Start menu > Settings > Control Panel > Network > Identification tab. In the computer name box type a name for your computer consisting of only letters (A-Z) and/or numbers (0-9). Restart your computer when prompted. If this does not work then you may not have installed a network client. If this is the case talk to your ISP to discuss the appropriate type of network client to install.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
