Antivirus product

  • A few weeks ago you recommended a virus-protection program to download. Please can you tell me again its name? Currently I have eSafe Protect Watch installed but its about to run out of time and I think it does too much, anyway. If I do download your advised program, what’s the best way of getting rid of all the eSafe files, etc? I’m running Windows 95.

The anti-virus program that I mentioned is McAfee VirusScan. You can find the information on how to download it from the internet in my response to question one in this column. To remove the eSafe Protect Watch files I recommend that you do a proper uninstall. You can do this by going to Start Menu > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. There you should find a list of programs in a box. Scroll down this list until you find ‘eSafe Protect Watch’ (or alike), click it once (to select it), and click the ‘Add/Remove’ button. This will start the uninstall procedure. You should always remove unwanted programs this way, rather than just deleting the program directory, because this removes all elements of the program (eg. registry entries, etc’¦) rather than just removing the program files.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
