Archive emails
-
I wish to archive my email folders onto floppy disk for work storage, however I can find no way within email to do this, nor can I find the file on C drive to copy from. How can I remove my emails from the system but access them when required? I have a 4 gig HDD that is almost full. Using explorer I have checked the C drive to delete unwanted programs, emptied the windows temporary files and recycle bins, but this does not free up much space. When I check the C drive I am unable to find any huge files, however there are many hidden files that I am not able to check. How can I more thoroughly check to free-up space?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to archive your email folders but it is possible to archive each individual email. If you use Microsoft Outlook Express for email you can save an email by going to File > Save As’¦ Here you can save emails in the format of Mail (*.eml), Plain Text (*.txt) or HTML (*.html). This just depends on what format of email you have received. I suggest you save emails as Plain Text. Plain Text can be read on virtually any computer, where as Mail and HTML need the appropriate software. If you do not use Outlook Express then the way to save emails is along similar lines. Have a look around the menu system (especially the ‘File’ menu) because the function to save emails is most likely to be there. If you want to free up more space on your computer then I suggest you do not delete any hidden files (most of them are system files) but delete files and/or programs that you haven’t accessed or used in the past month or so. If you desperately need to free up even more disk space then as a last resort only, you could backup all of your important files/programs, format your hard disk and start fresh. This will delete all of the miscellaneous files that Windows has accumulated over the years.
