Deleting files

  • I can’t seem able to delete permanently the names of files printed in the ‘Name and Location’ section of ‘ Find: All Files’. I ‘ve tried ‘Delete’ on the File tab but it’s not highlighted. Similarly delete commands on the keyboard only work for the moment and the name reappears next time I go to ‘Find’. These names have been there a while. When I type in a new name I can easily delete it by backspacing. Any suggestions?

The computer can be set up to delete these automatically when you boot up, or you can do it manually. The program that allows you to do this is called Tweak UI. This is a very handy program that can do many things the average user couldn’t do. This file is contained on your Windows 98 CD-ROM in the ‘G: ools
eskitpowertoy’ directory. There will be a file there named ‘tweakui.inf’. Right-click on it and select ‘Install’ thus installing TweakUI (If you don’t have Windows 98 then you can obtain it from the Microsoft website (www.microsoft.com) for use with Windows 95). You can access it by going to the ‘Control Panel’ and double-clicking the ‘TweakUI’ icon. To fix your problem using this software go to the ‘Paranoia’ tab and in the box labeled ‘Cover your tracks’ click to place a tick in the box beside ‘Clear Find Files history at logon’ followed by clicking the ‘Ok’ button. Next time you boot up your computer it should be cleared.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
