Detecting sound card

  • I have just had a new hard drive installed on my 486 DX66 and reinstalled Win 95. The boot fails to pick up my sound card. I have reinstalled the software that came with the sound card but still no joy. I go to “install new hardware” in settings and install the sound card and the sound works perfectly. However when I turn the machine off and on again the sound cards again lost. Any ideas?

It is possible that since you installed your sound card the manufacturer has updated the drivers so they will work with the latest hardware. I suggest that you obtain the latest drivers for your sound card. The most common way to do this is to go to the sound card manufacturer’s site on the internet (most companies have a site on the internet) where you can download the latest drivers. As a last resort though, you could contact the manufacturer by phone to check for the availability of new drivers and how to obtain them.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
