Page size

  • If I now create a new document (in Word 97 under Win 95) the first line of text is showing at 2cm on the page. When I go into print preview it is showing at 15.3cm and this is where it actually prints. This glitch is affecting all my existing documents when I print (whether Word 7 or Lotus Wordpro). Sometimes switching to A4 Transverse instead of A4 fixes the problem but not always and I cannot see any difference between A4 and A4 Transverse. Could I have inadvertently altered a setting somewhere? I have not been able to find it, as all the settings in Print and Page Setup seem OK.

This problem could be caused by Word not formatting the document you are printing to your printers paper size. Correct this by going to ‘Options’ menu > Tools, click the ‘Print’ tab and select, so an arrow appears in the ‘A4/Letter paper resizing’ check box. If this does not work, you may need to have another look at the ‘Page Setup’. Go to ‘File’ menu > ‘Page Setup’, click the ‘Margins’ tab and check that your margins are correct (they should be set about 1′ from the top and bottom of the page and 1.25′ from the left and right side of the page). I also suggest that you click the ‘Paper Size’ tab and check that the specified size of the paper is correct. If all this fails to solve your problem connect the printer to another computer to check if it works ok. Then, if it does, check all of the Word printing settings on that computer and try to mirror them on your computer. If it doesn’t work, your problem may be a hardware problem with the printer, not a software problem with Word.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
