Two second freezes

  • I have a Pentium 266 MMX running Windows 98. When I run Win98, about every 20 seconds it freezes for about two seconds. This happens when I’m also playing games. Can you help me?

This is probably caused by another program doing an operation in the background of Windows. To check if this is the case, close all applications that are running except essential applications. Firstly, close all the applications running in the system tray (eg. virus scanners) and then close other ‘invisible’ applications by using CTRL-ALT-DEL. Closing non-essential applications will free up more memory and free up CPU usage because no background operations will be running.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
