Volume and menu items

  • I have two problems. The first problem is in the volume control. When I click on options, then properties to adjust the volume, all inputs and outputs can be adjusted except recording, which is the one I want. It is grayed out. I can use the line input but would prefer to adjust the recording level. The second problem is when I right click on start, the open and explore menu items are always grayed out and I cannot access them. Hope you may be able to help.

There are several possible explanations for your problem. Perhaps the preferred device for recording is not set up. Go to ‘Start menu’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Control Panel’ and open the ‘Multimedia’ control panel. Click the ‘Audio’ tab and under the section headed ‘Recording’ select (via the drop down box) under ‘Preferred device’ the recording device for your sound card. If the only device listed is ‘(Use any available device)’ your sound card does not recognise the recording option. This is probably caused by a faulty installation of the drivers. I suggest you reinstall your sound card drivers and try again. If this does not work, your sound card probably doesn’t support the recording feature or your sound card is damaged in some way. If your sound card is relatively old (ie. 4 years +) I suggest you buy a new sound card. If it is new, contact the manufacturer having consulted the manual that came with your soundcard.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
