Accessory group lost

  • I have a 486sx with 450mb HDD that runs MS Windows 3.1 and DOS 6.11. I have lost the Accessory Group from the Windows screen but it is still located in the Windows directory (intact I hope). I can rebuild/create this group box/icon but when I try to fill this group via ‘File’ menu > ‘New Program Item’ and then find and try transferring the accessories group from its directory location into the empty icon box, it will not shift. The box stays empty. I can fill the icon box with all kinds of things but not with the accessory group that I really need. Thanks for your help

This problem is occurring because you cannot transfer the accessories group in the Windows directory to the Program Manager Accessories group. The reason for this is that the group in the Windows directory is in a different format to the Program Manager group. I suggest that you now recreate each Program Manager icon, manually, in the Accessories group. All you need to do, is to find where each program is located on your hard drive, then go to the ‘File’ menu > ‘New’, select under the ‘New’ area - ‘Program Item’, followed by Ok. Finally enter in the program information. Repeat this for each new program item you want to create.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
