Download stops
-
When I attempt a lengthy download (over one hour) on my PC (with Windows 95) the download process stops before completion leaving a partially downloaded file on my computer. Can you advise me how to correct this, and whether I can complete the download without losing the part already downloaded?
There may be a problem with the software you are using to download the file. I suggest that you use another program to download files (eg. if you are using Internet Explorer, it may be a good idea to download Netscape and use that instead). There are a number of free web browsers on the internet and a list of most can be found at www.browsers.com. In response to the second question as to whether you can continue the download, the answer is yes, provided you use a site that supports ‘Broken downloads’. Your best bet is to use FTP with a suitable client (eg. CuteFTP - www.cuteftp.com). Alternatively you can get all-in-one internet browsers like Netscape which has the ‘Smart download’ facility (this will allow you to pause downloads from sites that support broken downloads).
