Email accounts in Outlook

  • I have recently upgraded from Outlook Express to Outlook 98. I have an “email only” account with an ISP, but my actual internet connection is through a different ISP. The “email only” is a very cost effective account, and gives me the flexibility to retain a constant email address, regardless of who I may select in the future as my primary ISP. Outlook 98 shows both the connections in the “Tools-Options-Mail Services” menu, and checks incoming mail on both sites. However, when I send mail, it shows as originating from the primary ISP site whereas I would prefer it shows the “email only” site as the origin, and thus the “natural” return address. Under the previous version of Outlook Express I was able to nominate the “email only” site as the sender, this doesn’t seem possibly under Outlook 98. Any suggestions?

I don’t personally use Outlook 98. However, I was able to use a computer with a copy of Outlook 98 to investigate your query. I have not been able to find a feature that allows you to put your ‘email only’ account as the origin for email like in Outlook Express. There is a work around for this, which I have devised. I suggest that you go to the options or preferences section of Outlook 98 and put your ‘email only’ account’s email address in the ‘From’ or ‘Reply to…’fields. All outgoing email will still be sent through your normal ISP’s mail server. However, replies to your emails it gets sent to your ‘email only’ account. This is just one work around and I would be pleased to hear from anyone else reading this column who has another suggestion to help Allan A. with his question.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
