Modem standards

  • I have heard about all of these different things for 56k modems like 56k Flex, V.90, and X2. What are these?

56k Flex’, ‘V.90′, and ‘X2′ are all standards used in 56k modems to achieve the high-speed connection between your computer and the internet. ‘X2′ is the standard for 56k modems invented by US Robotics (which has merged with 3Com) and ‘56k Flex’ is the standard developed by Rockwell. ‘V.90′ though replaces both of these standards and is the new International Telecommunications Union (ITU) standard to support internet modem communications up to 56k.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
