IE5 not saving password

  • I have IE5 but when in the connection window I click save password and connect automatically but next time I try to connect I have to type in my password then press connect. Isn’t it meant to do that automatically? How do I get it to?

Although this problem may seem simple it is actually quite complex. It could be caused by any of the following: a damaged password list; damage to the ‘rna.pwl’ file (if it exists); password caching is disabled, automatic logon is enabled, file(s) associated with Dial-up Networking could be damaged, or user profiles are disabled but the ProfileList key is still present in the registry. To explain how to diagnose the problem and to fix it would just take too long in this column as there are numerous possible causes of this problem. I suggest that you go to this internet site: support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q148/9/25.ASP which is at the Microsoft Knowledge Base where you should find step-by-step instructions on how to fix your problem.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
