Video samples
-
I can’t seem to be able to get video samples on my screen. I follow the instructions, click on but get nothing. Is it necessary to do something to the configuration beforehand. I run Windows 95. Once seen can these videos be deleted? Help please. Thanks.
When you say ‘Video Samples’ are you talking about AVI, MPEG or Quicktime files? If it is a AVI file (which is pretty common) then the reason it may not be playing on your system is because the AVI file may require a particular codec which is not installed on your system. You can determine the codec that the AVI file requires by right-clicking the file and selecting ‘Properties’ from the menu that appears. Codec stands for Compression/DECompression it is used to package files into a reasonable size that can be copied onto disks, etc… One of the most common uses for it is video since without some sort of compression, files would be much too large. The problem that you may be experiencing though is that the AVI file may be compressed in a codec that your computer doesn’t have and thus can’t decompress it to view it. If you are interested and would like more information on codecs take a visit to CodecCentral (www.terran-int.com/CodecCentral/) where there is a world of information there about virtually every codec. Anyway back to your problem. Firstly make sure that ‘Video Compression’ is installed on your computer by going to the ‘Control Panel’, open ‘Add/Remove Programs’, click the ‘Windows Setup’ tab and scroll down the ‘Components’ until you find ‘Multimedia’. Click that once so it is highlighted then click the ‘Details’ button (located down the bottom of the box). In the next box that appears, scroll down the ‘Component’ list and make sure that ‘Video Compression’ is installed. If it isn’t, you should install it. Up to this point we have been talking about playing AVI files. If you are trying to play other formats such as QuickTime, you will need to download the QuickTime player from www.apple.com or www.download.com. If on the other hand it is a MPEG or other format file, you may have to download another player. There is a huge variety of players available at www.download.com so I suggest that you try there.
