Wake from standby

  • My system does not respond at all (mouse or keyboard) from Stand By mode and must be restarted from scratch each time. Screen savers and everything else seem to work ok, so I don’t think there is a power supply problem. The P/S is fairly new anyway. The only software I have added (and this before the problem arose) is MS Windows 98 Plus! And two elements of Lotus Smartsuite 97 (Lotus 1-2-3 and Word Pro). After repeated Windows 98 dialogue requests I cancelled the Standby option in the Shutdown box. Can you help please? How can I reinstate the facility?

One possible cause is that your computer has stopped responding in Standby mode two times consecutively or APM (Advanced Power Management) isn’t configured properly on your computer. The complexity of this question requires more explanation than I can put in this column. I will refer you to an article in Microsoft Knowledge Base which can be found at: support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q188/1/34.asp. You sent in your question via post so I am assuming that you do not have the internet and therefore cannot reach the above site. For that reason I have printed and sent you a copy of the above article via post.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
