    I have a very nosey flatmate who goes through the history details on my PC (I use Explorer 4.0) and then tells my friends what websites I have visited. This can be embarrassing if he talks about chat rooms or really silly places I’m been haphazardly surfing to. Can the history function be temporarily disabled, or can you delete selected items from the history list? (more…)

    There are times when I want to look at a file offline but IE5 automatically opens the program that runs the file and executes without giving me the option. I’m thinking about PDF files particularly when I know what I want and want to download and save for later access. I know that there is a facility for saving as a favorite and then working offline but to do that Acrobat has already been opened and the file is on display. Is there some way to get the option of saving or opening for PDF files for example. (more…)

    Windows 98 has some programs like regedit, sysedit. I did see briefly a similar one that allows the start up functions to be selected as well as a whole range of other functions - but cannot recall what it is? Is there a list of these somewhere? (more…)

    Since I put an extra Hard Drive into my computer the machine will not load itself. It comes up with a message: “Cannot find a device that may be needed to run Windows. The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists. nwredir.vxd Press a key to continue…’ I then have to press the ‘enter’ key a couple of times to continue. A new message then comes up: ‘Unable to load the dynamic link library. nwnp32.dll Have you any ideas? (more…)
