Hotmail commands lost

  • I have a PIII 450 running Netscape 4.06 and have a problem with using my Hotmail account. Just recently, when I log onto my account, the commands such as: compose, addresses, folders, etc… do not appear and no matter what I try (eg. reboot) they do not appear. It seems to be only my Hotmail account that is affected, and only in the last couple of weeks. Any advice would be helpful.

I suggest that you start by trying to access your Hotmail account by using another web browser (eg. Internet Explorer) or another computer. In this way you may narrow the problem down to your web browser (Netscape 4.06), your computer in general, or your Hotmail account. If you continue to have the same problem when you access your Hotmail account through another web browser and/or another computer, you can assume that the problem is to do with your account on the Hotmail server. If this is the case, you could try emailing Hotmail support because it is not a problem with your computer, it is a problem on a server half way around the world. The simplest and easiest option could be to dump the effected Hotmail account and create a new one. However, if you do not have this problem when accessing your Hotmail account through another browser and/or computer then we can assume it is a problem with Netscape. In this event you can do one of two things (i) just use another web browser on your computer to access your Hotmail account or (ii) reinstall or upgrade Netscape. I recommend that you reinstall or upgrade your version of Netscape. Netscape 4.7 has just been released and is downloadable from www.netscape.com. Lastly, if you can access your Hotmail account through another computer but not yours (regardless of what web browser you use) then it is obvious it is a problem within your computer. In this case I suggest that you dump the affected Hotmail account and cut your losses rather than more drastic measures, like reinstalling Windows.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
