nwredir.vxd and nwnp32.dll

  • Since I put an extra Hard Drive into my computer the machine will not load itself. It comes up with a message: “Cannot find a device that may be needed to run Windows. The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists. nwredir.vxd Press a key to continue…’ I then have to press the ‘enter’ key a couple of times to continue. A new message then comes up: ‘Unable to load the dynamic link library. nwnp32.dll Have you any ideas?

The two files ‘nwredir.vxd’ and ‘nwnp32.dll’ are files which are concerned with the ‘Client for NetWare Networks’ network client. These two files were probably deleted accidently, but the client remains installed.. As the client is still installed when it tries to load (on bootup) it is trying to locate the missing files. It obviously can’t because the files have been deleted which is why the error message appears. You can remedy this by going into ‘Start menu’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Control Panel’ and open the ‘Network’ control panel. In the ‘Network Components’ box, if ‘Client for NetWare networks’ is still installed, click so that it is highlighted, then click the ‘Remove’ button. Now you need to reinstall the client again. Click the ‘Add’ button and in the next box that appears click to highlight ‘Client’ followed by the ‘Add’ button. Under ‘Manufactures’, click ‘Microsoft’ and under the next heading, ‘Network Clients’, click ‘Client for NetWare Networks’ followed by a click of the ‘Ok’ button, then click the ‘Ok’ button again in the next box that appears. It should now ask you to insert your original Windows CD/Disks so make sure you have them handy. Once you have completed this, restart your computer and you should no longer receive the error message. If you need the ‘Client for NetWare Networks’ keep it, but if you don’t , you can remove it by opening the ‘Network’ control panel, click to highlight ‘Client for NetWare Networks’ followed by the ‘Remove’ button then the ‘Ok’ button.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
