Automatic disconnect
-
I have recently upgraded to IE5 and have discovered that the disconnect reminder box that used to appear at the end of a session on IE4 does not come up. I think I recall that some months ago you provided a reader with a solution to this? I have searched the archives but cannot find it. Was I dreaming? If there is a solution to getting this disconnection reminder box to appear, I would appreciate it.
I can just remember a question like this but I can’t find it in my archives either! Maybe we were both dreaming? In any case, here is the solution to your query. In IE 5 this option is, in most cases, disabled by default. However, you can re-enable it. Go to the ‘Tools’ menu > ‘Internet Options’ > ‘Connections’ tab and click the ‘Settings’ button. In the box that appears, click the button labelled ‘Advanced’ under ‘Dial-up Settings’ and place a tick in the box next to ‘Disconnect when connection may no be longer needed’. You can also place a tick in the box ‘Disconnect if idle for XX minutes’ if you would like this to occur. If you have any other queries, please feel free to write in again.
