Cannot play CDs
-
I’m in deep trouble with my teenage daughter because I downloaded the free RealPlayer G2 and Real Jukebox thinking I was doing her a favor. But it now appears that she has lost the easy facility of playing her pop CDs while doing her homework on the PC by previously merely slipping the CDs into the little drawer. Now she has to go through a big drama, clicking on Quickfinder, choosing a track, then going to File > Play > Close etc… before she can relax and get on with her homework. I’ve since de installed Real Jukebox but am reluctant to get rid of RealPlayer G2 if there’s some other way of getting back to normal. Any ideas on this one.
When you installed Real Jukebox that application probably took over the file association to play music CD’s from CD Player. Real Jukebox is not configured to auto play music CD’s like CD Player thus audio CD’s will not automatically play when they are placed into the drive. So, I suggest that you uninstall CD Player (being the CD player which is included with Windows and has the auto play feature) and then reinstall to restore the auto play feature and restore the file association. You can do this by going to the ‘Start’ menu > ‘Control Panel’ and open the ‘Add/Remove Programs’ control panel. Click the ‘Windows Setup’ tab. Double-click from the list of components ‘Multimedia’ and remove the tick from the box next to ‘CD Player’ (by clicking it once). Click the ‘Ok’ button and then click the ‘Ok’ button again and Windows should start the uninstall of the ‘CD Player’ application. Once this has happened (you may have to restart your computer if prompted) go back into the ‘Multimedia’ section and now do the reverse of what you did before and place a tick in the box next to ‘CD Player’ to reinstall it again. Click the ‘Ok’ button and ‘Ok’ button again and now ‘CD Player’ has been reinstalled and it should be able to auto play CD’s again.
