Customised labels in Word

  • I wonder if you can help me with a problem that has just started happening in Word97. I am trying to print customised labels within Word97/Windows95 and am not able to adjust the sizes correctly anymore. Having customised the label size and added the data I require, I then go into ‘Print Preview’ before printing. Everything looks fine there, and the margins are correct etc. However, when I print the label, the top margin is around 1cm shorter than the margin settings. I have resorted to trying to fudge the margins in desperation. However, this leads to a lot of hit and miss (more miss than hits!). I have since printed the labels on another PC with Word97/Windows NT and had no problems. I’m also having problems with my footers in some documents as well. The problem here is that the footer is getting cropped at the top of the text! It appears in the preview
window, however, it won’t print all the text.

This problem could be caused by the paper size in Word 97 being incorrectly selected. Go into the ‘File’ menu > ‘Page Setup’ and click the ‘Paper Size’ tab. Under the ‘Paper Size’ heading, make sure that ‘A4′ is selected rather than ‘Letter’ which is the default. Also make sure that the ‘Width’ and ‘Height’ settings of the paper are correct. If you are still having problems, since this error has only occurred recently, it could be a problem with a corrupt file in Word 97 or your print drivers. I suggest that you reinstall Word 97 and reinstall your printer drivers. This should restore all settings back to factory default and fix the kind of problem you are experiencing.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
