No free IRQs

  • You may recall that I wrote to you about my computer freezing up and you kindly replied in the Canberra Times on 10th January. I have reinstalled Windows 98 on a new hard drive and the problem exists as before. I have no spare IRQ’s. Where do I go from here?

IRQ’s are limited by your systems architecture. If you haven’t got any IRQ’s free, you have two choices (a) replace some of the devices with ones which can share IRQ’s or don’t consume IRQ’s at all; or (b) purchase a new computer and split the devices between them. However, before thinking about a new computer I would disconnect those devices which you don’t use that often. This should free up some IRQ’s and stop any conflicts.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
