Resolution changing

  • Sometimes when I turn on my computer the screen area settings have changed without me doing anything. They go from 1024X768 to 640X480 pixels. Do you know why? I’m running Windows 98 SE.

Possibly a setting in Windows instructs it to default to 640 x 480 x16 each time Windows starts. You can find this setting by going to ‘Start’ menu > ‘Run’ and typing in ‘msconfig’ (without the quotes) followed by clicking the OK button. In the application that opens, click the ‘General’ tab then the ‘Advanced’ button (in the bottom right hand corner of the box). In the ‘Advanced Troubleshooting Settings’ box which appears, you should see an option that is labeled ‘VGA 640 x 480 x 166′. If this option is enabled, disable it which should fix your problem. Don’t modify any other options though because that is for advanced system administrators only and serious damage can be done if you use it in the wrong way. I also apologise for the time it took me to respond to your query because it took some time to research.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
