The connection to the server has failed

  • Whenever I try to access my mail using Outlook Express, I get the following message: “The connection to the server has failed. Account: ‘apex.net.au’, Server: ‘127.0.0.1′, Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0×800CCC0E” I can send messages, I just can’t receive them. I’ve tried rebooting, uninstalling it and reinstalling. Can you think of anything else that may help me?

The reason that you cannot receive email is your server has been mis-configured. If you look at the error message, you will notice that the ‘Server’ setting is set as ‘127.0.0.1″ which is in fact the localhost address of your computer and not your ISP’s POP3 mail server. You can correct this by going to (in Outlook Express) the ‘Tools’ menu > ‘Accounts’ and click the ‘Mail’ tab. Double click on ‘apex.net.au’. Click the ‘Servers’ tab and in the text box next to ‘Incoming mail (POP3)’ delete ‘127.0.0.1″ and put in ‘apex.net.au’. You should now be able to receive your email.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
