Backup Outlook Express email

  • Please advise me what the best way to back-up my email. I am on Windows 98 and use Outlook Express version 4.72. I would like to back-up my email. I know I can export from Outlook Express but I would like to be able to copy the required files out to a zip drive and then restore them into Outlook Express if necessary. Can I do this using the export method? I also notice that the system stores my mail in the following folder. C:WINDOWSApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook ExpressMail. Can I simply back these folders up and then restore them if need be - will Outlook Express read whatever is there or is there some sort of control file that would reject old data? Thank you.

When I back up my email (eg. when I reinstall my computer’s system) I back up the files in the Outlook ExpressMail folder. There is no reason why OE would want to reject the files. However, to be sure, I suggest that you backup your most important individual email’s to *.txt files which can be done from the ‘Export’ function, just in case something unforseen does happen.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
