Nsched32 illegal operation

  • I have a problem with the date on my PC, which is a 486 (a bit aged like me) and run Windows 98 operating system. Each time I start up the computer I get a warning ‘Nsched32 This program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down’ I then cancel this warning and go into ‘My Computer’ date and year, which shows the correct day and month, but the year is always 2094. I correct this to 2000 and select Apply and OK. However, each time I shut down and later restart the PC the date has reverted to the appropriate day and month, but the year has reverted to 2094. By the way this problem started on 1 Jan this year. Can this be fixed?

Actually, there are two separate queries within your question. Your first problem I am guessing is related to Norton Antivirus because the program ‘nsched32′ is the Norton Program Scheduler (included with Norton Antivirus). To get rid of this error message, you will have to disable the program so that is does not load at startup. You can do this by going to ‘Start’ menu > ‘Programs’ > ‘Norton Antivirus’ and opening ‘Norton Program Scheduler’. Go to the ‘Tools’ menu and open ‘Options’. Click the ‘General’ tab and uncheck the box ‘Loads with Windows’. Click the ‘Ok’ button to get out of that and then exit Norton Program Scheduler. Now because it doesn’t load when Windows starts you should not get that error message anymore. Since the virus check might not now automatically run when you boot up the computer you may need to run it manually. Your second problem, is probably a small Y2K issue in Windows 98. I suggest that you download the Y2K patches for Windows 98 off the internet. You can download these by going to www.download.com, click the ‘Y2K’ link under the search area, and download ‘Windows 98 Year 2000 Update’ and ‘Windows 98 Year 2000 Update 2′. Although this is the most likely solution to your problem if it does not work out, please contact me again.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
