Computer time running slow

  • Since the weekend I have noticed my computer time is running slow by 20 minutes daily. How can I fix it, (or should I say have it fixed)? Do I have to be concerned about it or not? Can you help me please?

The computer clock could be running slow if the computer’s clock in the BIOS is set to the wrong time. Check/remedy this when your computer is performing the POST (Power On Self Test - this is when all the system messages are displayed, prior to the Windows splash screen being displayed). Press the ‘DEL’ key when the message ‘Press DEL to enter setup’ is displayed (the key and message may vary on different computers). Once you have entered the setup, go into the ‘Standard CMOS setup’ or ‘Standard BIOS setup’ (again depending on your computer). From here, you should be able to view the date and change it if necessary. However, be very careful in this setup because doing one wrong thing could cause a variety of problems. If no changes are necessary and the clock is correct, exit out of the standard CMOS/BIOS setup and exit out of the whole setup by using ‘Quit without saving’. However, if you did correct the date, exit out of the standard CMOS/BIOS setup and exit out of the whole setup by using ‘Quit with saving’. Boot-up Windows and if the Windows clock now shows the correct time, your problem is solved. However, if after a period of time the clock starts to go slow again, go back into your BIOS setup and if the clock there is showing the incorrect time, your BIOS battery on your motherboard is probably going flat. In this case, it will need to be replaced. For this I don’t recommend that you attempt it yourself but take it to a computer technician, explain the problem, and ask the technician if he has any other solutions. It is also possible that the BIOS clock is correct but the Windows clock still isn’t correct. Again, I suggest you take it to a computer technician to get it fixed.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
