Y2K and Microsoft Internet Mail

  • I’ve been trying to overcome a Year 2K bug problem but without success. I have a 486 PC using Windows 3.1. For email I use the Microsoft Internet Mail program. This worked fine until 1 January 2000. Since then the program no longer records the date received or sent, but instead writes “[No, or invalid, date]“. I have tried changing the date format on the desktop but it has not helped. I have also just noticed that for one of my email messages the program has recorded a ‘Sent’ date and time: 8/8/2001 06:30 although my computer clock reads the correct date. Is there a solution to this problem?

Since the Windows clock is showing the correct time we can assume that the problem is with Microsoft Internet Mail. Microsoft discontinued Microsoft Internet Mail which meant that there wouldn’t be any patches, upgrades, or Y2K patches available for it. If this problem does bother you greatly, I suggest that you download a new email client to replace your old one. You can find a list of email clients for Windows 3.1 at win3x.tucows.com/softmail.html. I suggest the email client Pegasus. It is very feature rich and is freeware. You can find it at www.pegasus.usa.com/.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
