PowerPoint to HTML

  • Last year I finished writing my family tree in the form of a book and distributed it to family members all over the world. This was very costly due to having to send new copies to all my family members when it was updated. My son and I have decided to put the family tree on the internet to save time and money. We used Microsoft PowerPoint to create the family tree. When we created it in PowerPoint all of the lines linking the tree together are of uniform thickness but when I pasted the tree into an HTML document for publishing on the internet the lines linking the tree together have gone strange (eg. some have gone thicker or thinner than others). Do you have a remedy for this problem?

I don’t use Microsoft PowerPoint that often so my knowledge of this will be based on generalisation. When I recreated your problem on my computer, the text was thinner and thicker than normal, not the lines! The package that I use, Corel Presentations 9 (part of the WordPerfect Office 2000 suite), allows me to actually export organisational charts as graphic files. I created a test organisational chart by using the Corel Presentations drawing mode and exported it as a GIF file and it worked perfectly. The organisation chart came out with perfect lines and text. In saying this I am not suggesting that you go out and buy a copy of WordPerfect Office 2000 but instead apply the same principle to PowerPoint. That is try exporting your PowerPoint organisational charts (ie. family tree) as a graphics file.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
