Windows Messaging

  • After installing and uninstalling several programs recently, I find I now have no reaction from the ‘Windows Messaging’ program bar off the ‘Start’ menu. On looking on the ‘Add/Remove Programs’ list in the ‘Control Panel’ I notice that ‘Windows Messaging Update 1′ which once appeared there has also been deleted along with the ‘Inbox’ icon that was once on the desktop. Any advice on how to re-instate Windows Messaging, if possible, would be greatly appreciated. I am running Windows 98 SE.

It seems that somewhere along the line you must have accidentally deleted Windows messaging. However, this is not a major problem as it can be easily reinstalled. Put your Windows 98 Second Edition CD into your CD drive and browse (using Windows Explorer) your CD-ROM drive to navigate to the directory ‘tools’ > ‘oldwin95′ > ‘message’ > ‘us’. Once you are here, double-click (to run) the file ‘wms.exe’ and Windows Messaging will automatically install. If you would like more information in Windows Messaging, and installing it, open the ‘wms-fax.txt’ file in the same directory.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
