Accessing website

  • I am having problems connecting to the Canberra Times Archives section. Every time I have entered a search word in the Archives section the computer has frozen as I have attempted to scroll down to the second entry. I am able to access the first entry but unable to scroll down to the second entry without the computer freezing. I have not had this problem on the Internet before. Once the computer freezes I have to reboot with the on/off switch. I am using Windows 98 and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Thanks for your time.

Since the page loads ok and the problem only occurs once you start scrolling, it is probably a problem with your browser. You didn’t specify which version of Internet Explorer you are using so you could try upgrading Internet Explorer to the latest version which now is 5.5. You can download this by going to windowsupdate.microsoft.com in Internet Explorer or, if you don’t like the large download, you could possibly find it on a cover CD purchased with a magazine. However, if you are still encountering a problem in accessing the Canberra Times Archives, your best bet may be to switch browsers to Netscape or Opera. Netscape is free and can be downloaded from www.netscape.com and Opera is shareware and can be downloaded from www.opera.com. I would like to thank Damien H. and Chris J. for helping with this problem.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
