I’m having a problem with cookies. My ISP is Optusnet and they offer a personalised home page where you can select your own news, sport, weather etc. To take part you have to register (free) and they give you a password and off you go and personalise your home page. My problem is that when I sign on to personalise my home page I either get the Sign In page back or the standard (non-personalised) home page. I have tried deleting all my cookies in case they are corrupted but the problem still persists. My cookies are enabled in Internet Options but they are not ending up in the ‘Cookies’ folder but going to the ‘Temporary Internet Files’ folder and are not labelled as Cookies. When I access my account from work I have no problems with it and I can make changes to the homepage at will. I have tried copying my cookies from the work computer and saving them at home in the Cookies Folder but that made no difference. I am running Windows 98, Internet Explorer 5.0. (more…)

My niece has recently acquired her first computer. It is a second hand computer. It works like a charm with one exception, the colours on the screen are only blue, green and yellow shades. However, the full spectrum of colours print. It runs under Windows 95, and there are no other problems with any of the software. What might the problem be and is it fixable? (more…)

Recently, I did a complete reinstall of Windows 98 SE. Now I cannot play sound files and I am getting numerous error messages in DXDIAG. After downloading the latest versions of the ‘SB16.vxd’ driver and DirectX, things are not much better. At best I get patchy sound with Windows Media Player and with games even though they had not misbehaved before. I recently added a microphone and that won’t record. Maybe this is the culprit? I can still play audio CDs and run FM radio and Pixelview TV with sound (I don’t load them all at once). Would reverting back to an earlier version of DirectX fix the problem? Any suggestions? I have Microsoft Works 2000 and Windows 98 SE. I had some work done on my computer to fix a software problem and in the process the Calendar in Works was replicated. When I go to the Microsoft Works programs group on the Start menu, there is Calendar, Calendar (2), and Calendar (3). I want to get rid of Calendar (2) and Calendar (3). I tried uninstalling Works 2000 and when I went back to the Microsoft Works group Calendar (2) and Calendar (3) were still there but unopenable. I reinstalled Works 2000 and when I opened the Calendar it was completely empty of entries. I re-entered my anniversary items thinking that they would only be recorded in Calendar. However when I opened the Calendar (2) and Calendar (3) there were all my entries. Can you help please? (more…)
