Delete several old emails simultaneously

  • Could you please tell me how to delete several old emails simultaneously? Also, each time I open Outlook Express the emails are still there! How can I get rid of them?

Reading your question, I am not sure if you mean that each time you reopen Outlook Express the email messages are in their original location or somewhere else. However, read on and this method should rid those rubbed out emails for good. Firstly, when you delete emails they are not totally deleted, they are just moved to the ‘Deleted Items’ folder in Outlook Express (much like the ‘Recycle Bin’ in Windows). Make sure that you regularly empty the ‘Deleted Items’ folder in Outlook Express to totally delete the discarded messages. You can do this by right-clicking on ‘Deleted Items’ and clicking ‘Empty ‘Deleted Items’ Folder’. You can also set Outlook Express to automatically delete your ‘Deleted Items’ folder when you shutdown Outlook Express. You can set this by going to the ‘Tools’ menu > ‘Options’, click on the ‘Maintenance’ tab, and enable ‘Empty Messages from ‘Deleted Items’ folder on exit. Click ‘Ok’ to close the ‘Options’ window. If your emails still come back, follow the above procedure again (to empty the ‘Deleted Items’ folder) and then compact your folders. This will totally remove all trace of deleted messages. You can do this in Outlook Express by going to the ‘File’ menu > ‘Folder’ > ‘Compact all folders’. Regarding the other part of your question, you can delete multiple emails by holding down the ‘Shift’ key and selecting the range of emails you wish to delete and then press the ‘Delete’ key on your keyboard. Alternatively, if you wish to delete several individual emails you can hold down the ‘Ctrl’ key on your keyboard and select the emails, followed by pressing the ‘Del’ key to delete them.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
