  • Right hand edge doesn’t print

When I print some web pages the right hand edge of the page on the screen fails to print, leaving it incomplete. Reducing font size merely rearranges the words to fit more on each screen line but different text is then missing from the printed page. The only way I can print the whole message is to cut and paste the text into WordPerfect. The heading on each printed page, showing the Web name and address, prints to a 7.75 inch width, but the remainder of the page is restricted to a width that ranges between 6.8 and 7.1 inches. I use Windows 98 and Netscape 4 with a Kyocera FS-680 laser printer. (more…)

  • msimn won’t close

I am running Windows 98 with Outlook Express 5 for email and Internet Explorer for the web. At times when I close Outlook Express and Internet Explorer, ‘msimn’ (which is the Outlook Express executable) continues running and won’t close. This sometimes results in the whole system freezing up (including the box, that appears when pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL, which says the program is not responding). In this situation I have to press CTRL-ALT-DEL again to restart the computer. Also, at times when I am trying to do a Scandisk or Defragment I’m told that there is a program running in the background (even though I am sure that I’ve closed everything down) and thus I cannot complete a Scandisk or Defragment. The Microsoft help page advises that the ‘msimn’ problem is caused by McAfee Anti-Virus. However, I don’t have McAfee installed, although I did have the program in the past but uninstalled it due to major system conflicts with other software rendering the computer almost unusable. I manually deleted each individual McAfee Anti-Virus file. Would I still have some McAfee related files in the background which stops me doing the Scandisk and Defragment and, at the same time, conflicts with Internet Explorer and Outlook Express? (more…)

In Windows when I try and open My Computer, Control Panel, Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, etc… the following message appears ‘This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists contact the program vendor’. When I hit the ‘Details’ button the information ‘Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module at 000:6964696f’ appears. Explorer then restarts. However, when I try to open Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint I have no problem. Could you please suggest how I might eradicate this problem? I am running Windows 98. (more…)

I am having trouble logging into a free webmail service. Whenever I enter my username and password, and click ‘Login’, Internet Explorer jumps to the logout page. I can login ok on any other computer except mine! Recently I joined an e-newsletter (accessed via a password) and the same problem occurs. There is no problem with accessing my own ISP based email. I am using Windows ME. (more…)

  • Netscape Messenger doesn’t open

I am having problems with Netscape 4.5 as I can no longer access my Netscape Mail. For some strange reason, after having successfully used Netscape for my mail and internet for some years, I can use Navigator but not Messenger. When I click on the mail symbol nothing happens. Having reinstalled the complete program the problem remains. Because of my Netscape problems I am using Outlook Express at the moment and for some reason I can’t print any messages. This is very strange because I can successfully print from any other application including Outlook. Also, when using either Outlook or Outlook Express is there any way of working offline from the outset. It seems that both programs require the user to be connected to the ISP before they can be used which is inconvenient sometimes when composing long messages. I am using Windows 98. Can you help me please? (more…)
