Downloaded program become default home page

  • I inadvertently downloaded an unwanted program from the internet and it has now become my default ISP home page. No matter what I do I cannot uninstall it. I would be grateful for any suggestions as to how I can get rid of the offending program. I run Windows 98. Thanks!

I can’t really offer any advice in regard to uninstalling the program (apart from going to ‘Add/Remove Programs’ in the ‘Control Panel’) as you haven’t really provided enough information (eg. what the offending program is, what you have so far tried, etc…). However, I can tell you how to fix your problem regarding the default ISP home page. Open Internet Explorer and go to the ‘View’ or ‘Tools’ menu (depending on your version of Windows) > ‘Internet Options’. In the Window, click the ‘General’ tab and you should see an area at the top of the window with the heading ‘Home page’. Here you can set your default homepage. There are several options for setting the default Internet Explorer homepage:
    (a) manually type in the address you would like as your homepage in the ‘Address:’ text box. (b) set the default homepage as the current page Internet Explorer is on by pressing the ‘Use current’ button
    (c) set the inbuilt default homepage as the default Internet Explorer homepage by pressing the ‘Use default’ button
    (d) set the default homepage as a blank page by pressing the ‘Use blank’ button
If you would like help with uninstalling the application, please feel free to contact me again with more specific information.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
