Microsoft Home Publisher: One or more components are missing or broken
-
I am running Windows 98 SE on a Pentium 2 computer and am having trouble with Microsoft Home Publisher. It previously ran ok but after my CD drive failed I had to reinstall Windows and Home Publisher. Now I get the error message ‘One or more components are missing or broken’. On pressing ‘Help’ a message appears stating that the WMF graphics filter is missing. I’ve tried reinstalling Windows and Home Publisher but the problem remains. Any idea what the missing or corrupt file is and how I could fix the problem?
This is a very strange problem as it should have been fixed by reinstalling the program and Windows. As the problem still occurs after reinstalling Windows we can assume that the problem isn’t to do with Windows itself. It could be caused by a conflict with another program. Have you installed any applications under this new installation of Windows which you didn’t have running under your old installation? If you do, then consider uninstalling these applications and reinstalling Home Publisher to see if this solves the problem. However, if this doesn’t work then it almost sounds as if there is a problem with the actual CD or installation process. Apart from these suggestions I am out of ideas. The next step I can see is to contact Microsoft technical support and ask for their advice. As always, if any other readers have suggestions, please write in.
