Cannot Display Page when clicking links in emails

  • I utilise Outlook Express through Internet Explorer 5.5 using Windows 98. I subscribe to two CNET newsletters, being, CNET.Download.com Dispatch and CNET ICQ Tips Dispatch. Both of these subscriptions have a link to one.digital.cnet.com within each newsletter. My problem is when I attempt to open these links I get a ‘Cannot Open This Page’ message in Internet Explorer. Could you provide any assistance with this problem?

It seems to be a common problem when clicking links or entering addresses and getting the ‘Cannot Open This Page’ message, seemingly before Internet Explorer has even tried to access the site! I have also experienced a similar problem but have not yet been able to find a fix for the problem. However, I have been able to work around it by reloading the page or, if that does not work, I delete the cache and history and try again. As your problem related to the clicking of links in emails, I suggest that a workaround for your problem would be to copy and paste the URL you wish to visit, from the email message into Internet Explorer. If you would prefer a solution rather than a workaround, have a look at the Microsoft Knowledge Base article support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q177/0/54.asp which has some suggestions where clicking hyperlinks in Outlook Express refuse to connect to the web page.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
