Extended dash centred on a line

  • I have a Samtron PC that operates on the Windows 98 system and would like to know what function key one uses to get the extended dash which is centred on a line. The dash is equivalent to two hyphens joined together and should be used in sentences as a spacer instead of using a hyphen; which is technically incorrect. Any ideas? Your help would be much appreciated.

You can get the extended dash by pressing and holding the ALT key, while entering the number 0151, then release the ALT key. You can also find many other symbols and their keystrokes by using the ‘Character Map’ which can be found in the ‘System Tools’ group in the ‘Accessories’ program group on your start menu. If you cannot find the menu, you may have to install it through the add Windows components function in the ‘Add/Remove Programs’ control panel.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
