Reading photos from Windows 95

  • My newly purchased digital camera requires Windows 98 SE. The software that comes with this camera is Adobe Photo Deluxe HE 3.0. As a visual artist, I needed to upgrade from my old digital camera which ran on Windows 95. Can you please advise me how to access in Windows 98 SE all of the photos that I have saved to floppy disks and CDs through Windows 95. I am running a Pentium MMX 200Mhz, 4gb hard drive, and 32mb of RAM.

You should have no problems in Windows 98 reading the photos that were saved through Windows 95 provided you have an application in Windows 98 capable of reading the file format of the photos. For example, if the photos have been saved in the JPEG graphics file format, then you will have no problems as Windows 98 comes with software that can read JPEG files. This is the same for other widely used graphic file formats such as GIF and BMP. To view these files, all you have to do is double-click on them. However, if the files are saved in a more obscure format, then you may have to install a specialised program to view the files. In this case, you would need to install in Windows 98 the application you used to view the files in Windows 95. There should not be a compatibility problem here, but this will depend on the software. If you want to go ahead, I suggest that you make a copy of the photos and convert them to JPEG format in case you can’t install the application to read the files in Windows 98. However, be sure to keep the original files in the original format as you may be able to install the viewing application.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
