CWBNW6101 unable to start networks drives

  • I purchased my computer in July 1998 and it is a Pentium Smart 100X. Its operating system is Windows 98. Recently it started to have the following problems: Firstly, although the operating system is Windows 98, when I turn my computer on it boots up in Windows 95 but shuts down in Windows 98. Secondly on startup I get a ‘Client Access Message Display’ window with the message ‘CWBNW6101 unable to start networks drives’. Could you provide any advice?

With regard to your first problem, your computer is not booting up in Windows 95. Instead, there is just a Windows 95 splash screen on bootup instead of a Windows 98 splash screen. This is not of great concern as you can change the bootup splash screen to basically whatever you want. For more information on changing the splash screen have a look at www.zdnet.com/products/stories/reviews/0,4161,2656879,00.html. Regarding your second question about the error message CWBNW6101 which appears on startup, this can occur if you are running iSeries Client Access on Windows 98 (as you are) or Windows 95 OSR 2. There is a patch available for this problem which can be obtained from www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/clientaccess/w95faq.htm#cwbnw6101. The iSeries Client Access is a client to allow you to access an IBM eServer iSeries. I am not sure why you would have this on a home computer but I would not remove it unless you are completely sure you do not need it.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
