Netscape Messenger doesn’t open
-
I am having problems with Netscape 4.5 as I can no longer access my Netscape Mail. For some strange reason, after having successfully used Netscape for my mail and internet for some years, I can use Navigator but not Messenger. When I click on the mail symbol nothing happens. Having reinstalled the complete program the problem remains. Because of my Netscape problems I am using Outlook Express at the moment and for some reason I can’t print any messages. This is very strange because I can successfully print from any other application including Outlook. Also, when using either Outlook or Outlook Express is there any way of working offline from the outset. It seems that both programs require the user to be connected to the ISP before they can be used which is inconvenient sometimes when composing long messages. I am using Windows 98. Can you help me please?
To solve your problem with Netscape Mail, I suggest you start with the article ‘Messenger Mailbox does not open when selected’ at help.netscape.com/kb/consumer/19970808-16.html. If this does not solve the problem, it is possible that your default Windows mail client has been set to something other than Netscape mail. Go to the ‘Start’ menu > ‘Control Panel’ > ‘Settings’ and open the ‘Internet [Options]‘ control panel. In the window that appears, click the ‘Programs’ tab. Ensure that your ‘E-mail’ is set to ‘Netscape Messenger’. Regarding your problem with Outlook Express not printing, this is a fairly common query and there are quite a few reasons for this occurring. Firstly, if you have Internet Explorer 5 with Outlook Express 4, it is a known issue that Outlook Express will not print. In this case, you will need to upgrade to Outlook Express 5. Secondly, the problem can arise if the preview pane in Outlook Express is not enabled. You can find instructions to fix this at support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q225540. Turning to your final question, there is a way to work offline in Outlook and Outlook Express. When you open Outlook Express, a box should appear asking if you want to connect to the internet. Close this box (either by clicking the close button or the X at the top right hand corner of the window). You should now be working offline. To check this, go to the ‘File’ menu and see if there is a tick next to ‘Work Offline’. Alternatively, you can open Internet Explorer, go to the ‘File’ menu, and click ‘Work Offline’.
