Windows - There are no spare stack pages. It may be necessary to increase the settings of MinSPs
By skid on January 28, 2002 in Windows 95/98/Me | No Comments
Every so often the following message appears on the screen ‘Windows - There are no spare stack pages. It may be necessary to increase the settings of MinSPs in SYSTEM.INI to prevent possible stack faults. There are currently 4 SPs allocated. Press any key to continue…’. I am using Windows 98 with the Office 2000 suite. I have always been able to continue the log on process after ‘pressing any key’. Can you tell me what this means and what I should do? (more…)

Internet Explorer homepage hijacked
By skid on January 28, 2002 in Internet and email | No Comments
I wonder if you can help me rather urgently. A (questionable) website seems to have hijacked my internet explorer home page. The unwanted site was set as my homepage when I visited an internet site even though I did not accept any offer to have this as my default homepage. I run the latest version of Internet Explorer on a Pentium 933 with 128MB RAM and a 30GB hard drive. Previously I had Hotmail set as the IE homepage. I have tried a couple of things. Firstly, I went to ‘Tools’ > ‘Internet Options’ > and set the homepage as www.hotmail.com. Secondly, I clicked ‘Reset Web Settings’ in the ‘Programs’ tab in the Internet Options. If I stay in the same session, this fixes the problem but as soon as I log off then log on again, the questionable site appears again as the default homepage. There was no improvement when I tried deleting all the temporary internet files, then doing the two above procedures again before logging off. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Video card locks up
By skid on January 21, 2002 in Video/Graphics | No Comments
Every time I try to run games my video card locks up. At first I thought this might have been an IRQ conflict with the sound card because my sound card being a3d takes up 3 IRQ slots. I tried first disabling my sound card then uninstalling it altogether but my video card still locked up. I have also downloaded the latest a3d and nVidia drivers without any luck. I am running a Pentium II 350mhz with Windows ME 64mb of ram, an nVidia TNT2 M64 video card, a Xitel Storm VX sound card, and a Abit BH6 motherboard. (more…)
