Video card locks up
-
Every time I try to run games my video card locks up. At first I thought this might have been an IRQ conflict with the sound card because my sound card being a3d takes up 3 IRQ slots. I tried first disabling my sound card then uninstalling it altogether but my video card still locked up. I have also downloaded the latest a3d and nVidia drivers without any luck. I am running a Pentium II 350mhz with Windows ME 64mb of ram, an nVidia TNT2 M64 video card, a Xitel Storm VX sound card, and a Abit BH6 motherboard.
Some owners of TNT2 cards experience lock-ups when using 3D acceleration if the AGP aperture setting is either too high or low. The AGP aperture setting specifies how much of the PC’s memory and virtual memory is accessible by the card in the Advanced Graphics Port (AGP) bus. In this case, it is your TNT2 video card. Try reducing your AGP aperture to 16MB. You can access this setting through your systems BIOS setup. This can normally be accessed by pressing a certain key (eg. DEL) when prompted during the computer POST (power on self test) which occurs as soon as you turn on the computer (ie. this is when the memory tests, etc… take place). Make sure that you write down the original setting before changing it, in case you need to reinstate that value. If you still have no luck after decreasing the value to 16MB, try other values to test whether this makes any difference. However, I strongly suggest that you don’t play with any other settings in the BIOS as it is a rather delicate (and very important) part of the computer.
