Can’t create the item
By skid on February 25, 2002 in Internet and email | No Comments
When clicking on an email hyperlink on a web page to create a new email message in Outlook 2000, an Outlook error message appears which says ‘Can’t create the item’. Reinstalling Outlook 2000 has not made any difference. I would be very grateful if you could offer some assistance. I am running Windows 98 with Internet Explorer 5 and Office 2000. (more…)

Some time ago you answered a problem about not being able to print from Internet Explorer using either the file menu or the printer icon. Recently I upgraded my computer to Windows Me with Internet Explorer 5.5. Since the upgrade I can no longer print from Internet Explorer. I can’t locate your response in the Canberra Times archives. Advertisements in Outlook Express
By skid on February 25, 2002 in Internet and email | No Comments
Recently I downloaded the latest version of Outlook Express. Now advertisements appear at the bottom of the Outlook Express window on my screen. The ads disappear when I open an email but if I am simply scrolling through items in my inbox, and previewing the contents of an email, the ads are permanently visible and (constantly changing whilst I am online). I have tried to minimise that section of the page to hide the ads, but have had no success. I am running Windows 98 and have Outlook Express configured to use both my Hotmail and Bigpond email accounts. In the Canberra Times of 24 December 2001, you advised about clearing out the COOKIES and TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES directories and I was wondering whether a similar procedure could be used to get rid of my unwanted ads? LiveUpdate not updating
By skid on February 18, 2002 in Security and malware | No Comments
I have just realised that when I am running Norton AntiVirus LiveUpdate it is actually not updating my virus definition files! I have attempted to reinstall Symantec LiveUpdate and run it several times as recommended, but to no avail. I have just renewed my subscription for 2002 and did not realise until a few months ago that it was not updating, even though LiveUpdate was run on a regular basis. My operating system is Windows 95. Your assistance would be most appreciated. (more…)

Message does not leave Outbox
By skid on February 18, 2002 in Internet and email | No Comments
I have recently been experiencing a problem with mail and Outlook 2000. Where virtually every message has to be sent twice. Initially, it was only an occasional problem After typing a message offline and clicking on ‘Send’, to send it to the Outbox, .I have discovered that generally the message appears in the Outbox with the word ‘None’ in the sent column. Upon dialing up my ISP then clicking on the ‘Send/Receive’ button, I find that the message is not sent. However when I open the message in the Outbox and click on ‘Send’ again, it appears with a date and time in Italics in the sent column. This message will then be sent when next on line. The system is operating with Windows Me and Office 2000 with Outlook 2000 set up for Internet Mail Only. I am using Word 2000 as my e-mail editor. I have a copy of the Knowledge base item Q195922. As most suggestions are not applicable, I have not gone down the route of trying to correct the possibly corrupt personal folders or address book. Do you have any explanation for the need for a date and time stamp in the Outbox before a message can be sent and why this does not occur when I try to send emails? Any advice that you can provide will be appreciated. (more…)
